Minimum Flight Time Requirements

Actual or Simulated Instrument Flight Time

Instrument Flight Training from a CFII*
15 Hours
*Three hours of flight training must be conducted within the 2 calendar months preceding the practical test.
Eligibility Requirements
Instrument Rating Requirements
- Hold a current Private Pilot Certificate, or be applying concurrently.
- Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English.
- Receive endorsements from a qualified instructor.
- Pass the FAA Instrument Knowledge Test.
- Pass the FAA Practical Test, including the oral exam and flight checkride.
- Meet aeronautical knowledge requirements of 14 CFR §61.65(b).
- Demonstrate flight proficiency requirements of 14 CFR §61.65(c).
- Meet aeronautical experience requirements of 14 CFR §61.65(d).
